The class can draw everything from simple lines to complex shapes like pies and chords. It can also draw aligned text and pixmaps. Normally, it draws in a “natural” coordinate system, but it can in addition do view and world transformation. The example provides a render area, displaying the currently active shape, and lets the user manipulate the rendered shape and its appearance using the QPainter parameters: In addition the user can rotate a shape Transformations ; behind the scenes we use QPainter ‘s ability to manipulate the coordinate system to perform the rotation. The Basic Drawing example consists of two classes: RenderArea is a custom widget that renders multiple copies of the currently active shape. Window is the application’s main window displaying a RenderArea widget in addition to several parameter widgets. First we will review the Window class, then we will take a look at the RenderArea class. Window Class Definition The Window class inherits QWidget , and is the application’s main window displaying a RenderArea widget in addition to several parameter widgets.

The grid method can be a fairly time-intensive process, depending on how large and detailed your painting will be. While the process is not as quick as using a projector or transfer paper, it does have the added benefit of helping to improve your drawing and observational skills. In a nutshell, the grid method involves drawing a grid over your reference photo, and then drawing a grid of equal ratio on your work surface paper, canvas, wood panel, etc.
Then you draw the image on your canvas, focusing on one square at a time, until the entire image has been transferred. Once you’re finished, you simply erase or paint over the grid lines, and start working on your painting, which will be now be in perfect proportion! To use the grid method, you need to have a ruler, a paper copy of your reference image, and a pencil to draw lines on the image. You will also need a work surface upon which you will be transferring the photo, such as paper, canvas, wood panel, etc.
To draw the grid lines on paper, I would recommend using a mechanical pencil, so that you can get a thin, precise line. Be sure to draw the grid very lightly, so that you can easily erase it when you are finished. To draw the grid lines on canvas or wood, I would suggest using a thin piece of sharpened charcoal. Again, make sure you make the grid lines as light as possible, so that they are easy to erase when you are finished. The benefit of using charcoal on canvas or wood, instead of using pencil, is that charcoal can be easily wiped off with a paper towel or rag, whereas pencil can be more difficult to erase.
The important thing to remember when drawing the grids is that they must have a 1: This is very important – otherwise your drawing will be distorted!
Section 1: Why Inference?

As you move the cursor over an object you can see the available connection glue points. To connect two shapes move the mouse cursor over a gluepoint, click on it with the left mouse button to establish the first point, and then drag the mouse cursor left button still pressed to the other gluepoint and release the mouse button. The ends of the line are now docked and the connection is established see Figure Gluing a connector to a shape. You can also place the beginning or the end of a connector to the middle of an object.
This is useful when the final position of the object is not yet fixed. When you move the object Draw will automatically select the optimal location for the connector ends see Figure Connector attached to the middle of an object. As with all other objects, connectors have one or more control points to simplify the construction of the drawing. You can use these points to change the shape, length and proportions of the connector line see Figure Control points of a connector.

A Backpiece Can Be Complex! Normally when taking on a full backpiece, my first inclination is to use bold black lines- often up to a few millimeters thick- to distinguish the foreground objects and give the tattoo the graphic clarity that it needs.
Then well go deeper and explore the anatomy, and finally based on the anatomy, break up the major planes into the minor planes. Major Planes In my portrait drawing classes I see a lot of people struggle to get the nose pointing in the right direction and to look 3-dimensional. There are the side planes, the top plane and the bottom plane.
As the head turns side to side or up and down, all the angles and shapes of the nose will change. From the front view the tip of the nose is aligned with the center line of the face and the side planes are the same width. As the head turns to the side the tip of the nose will extend away from the center line. The far side plane will get thinner and the closer one will get thicker. Pay attention to the heights of the top and bottom planes. As the head looks up, the bottom plane gets taller and the tip of the nose gets closer to the eyes.
Eventually it will even cover a portion of the eye. The tendency for many artists is to lower the tip of the nose, but of course if you do that, then the nose will point in a different direction than the head. At a down tilt, the top of the nose will extend down from the nostrils. Remember that the bottom of the middle third, indicates the connection of the nostrils to the face, not the tip of the nose.

However, it uses a line strip primitive type when it identifies the indices of the vertex array to draw. Fewer indices are stored when you use a line strip. To draw a line strip Create a list of indices to identify the order in which to draw the points in the specified point list. Only half the number of indices used for the line list are needed here because the data consist of a series of connected lines.
LineStrip to determine how to interpret the data in the vertex array.
Now let’s cover what happens when the head tilts up or down. Pay attention to the heights of the top and bottom planes. From straight on, you’ll generally see a little bit of the bottom plane.
